The first day of a new school year was an occasion the old Headmaster had always been very fond of. The atmosphere of Hogwarts buzzed with excitement as new students had arrived to behold the magnificent castle, thrilled to get to learn magic. Older students returned likely less excited at the prospects of homework, though they were sure to in enthusiastic tones catch up with old friends, sharing the events (and gossip) of their summers.
The old Headmaster himself had enjoyed a warm vacation at the beach, though he kept this a secret from most of his staff, memories of palm trees, flip-flops and drinks causing a slight smile to appear on his wrinkled face.
Currently, he was making his way down a torch-lit corridor that would lead him to the Great Hall, his long smaragdine colored robes billowing around him as he descended a staircase and finally slowed his pace, his pair of shoes –matching in color with his robes- clicking together as he quietly placed himself besides the entrance to the Great Hall. The murmur of conversations and cutlery clinging in the background as he watched new and old students alike make their way towards the first breakfast of the school year.
It was not something he usually did, standing by the entrance. No, his wizened green eyes were from behind the round spectacles of his searching for someone. He was not sure whom he was searching for just yet, but the unknown person in question would show up eventually, that much he knew.
